Johnny Nixon graduated from Humber College for Jazz in 1994, and also studying Classical guitar with Eli Kassner (former head of Classical guitar at the University of Toronto). He has performed with some amazing talent-The Toronto Mass Choir, Pat & Debbie Boone, Kathy Troccoli, Mark Masri (The Tenors), Robin Mark, Dan Macaulay, Andy Timmons, Gary Hoey, For The Master, The Tonettes, Ben Heppner, Kevin Pauls, and many others. Johnny has played at some amazing venues including the FirstOntario Centre, Scotia Bank Arena and a countless number of Jazz Festivals, Churches and Theatres.
For most of his music career, Johnny has been working as a studio guitarist. He has performed/produced over 400 full length recordings including 5 CDs of his own. His albums are a mix of instrumental Jazz/Rock Fusion and solo Acoustic music. Johnny's music can be found on any streaming platform and he is comfortable performing and teaching in most guitar styles-Jazz/Rock/Metal/ Gospel/R&B/Neo Soul/Progressive/Flamenco/Worship/Blues/Country/New Age Acoustic/ Pop.
Johnny's strength as a teacher is teaching students how to apply music theory and technique to their guitar playing right away. Having students grasp the big picture faster by applying modes and scales, being able to create endless chords and also composing their own music and guitar solos. Johnny can also demonstrate how to practice for success!
