Darren is a musician, choral conductor, music educator, songwriter and vocal producer. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music from York University, a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto and a Master of Music in Music Education from the University of Western Ontario. He is currently a PhD candidate in Music Education at the University of Toronto.
Darren also teaches high school music with the Peel District School Board. He is also the founding director of the Gospel Choir undergraduate course at University of Toronto and presented music workshops at York University, University of Toronto, University of Waterloo and the annual Ontario Music Educators' Association conference.
Darren is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Waterloo Region Mass Choir. The choir released its debut EP, 'Not Powerless', in Spring 2022, featuring some of Darren's original gospel compositions and musical arrangements. Darren also served as co-producer and executive producer for the EP recording project which received two 2022 GMA Canada Covenant Award nominations for “Video of the Year” and “Canadian Christian Song of the Year”.
Darren was the recipient of the 2022 MusiCounts Teacher of the Year JUNO Award for his contributions to the field of music education.
